Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery - An update for families
This week our teams discovered several memorial plaques at Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery have been removed or damaged. We know this will be upsetting news for the community, especially if it affects a memorial for someone you love.
We will keep this page updated as we have more information to share.
What’s happened
We found that a number of memorial plaques at Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery have been removed or damaged. When this was discovered, our teams contacted Victoria Police and we are supporting their investigations.
We are currently going through the cemetery to understand which memorials have been affected. Because this is a historic cemetery, this may take some time.
What we are doing
We have contacted Victoria Police and are helping with their investigation
We are inspecting memorials at the cemetery to see which ones have been effected.
Where we have contact details for loved ones who’s memorials have been impacted, we are reaching out to let them know.
We have put up signs at the cemetery so visitors know what has happened
Has your family’s memorial been affected?
Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery is over 150 years old. As a result, we may not have up to date contact information for every family.
