Honouring our everyday heroes - Father's Day 2020

We understand that this year, particularly within our Victorian community, Father’s Day may have looked very different. However, despite what is going on around us, we always ensure we make the special times special.

Although we couldn’t join together with our community in the way that we would have done in previous years, we were delighted to host a very special and unique Facebook Live Remembrance Service in partnership with Templeton Family Funerals on Thursday 3 September.

During the service, we honoured the season that we have found ourselves in, as we took time to reflect on the memories of all fathers and father figures, together. Together we took the time to light a remembrance candle and take a moment to reflect. Together we shared stories of our fathers, and together we encouraged one another.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all who attended our Father’s Day Facebook Live Remembrance Service. We understand that this is a difficult time for many and for some, it may have been their first year without their father by their side, or the first year they have been unable to visit his final resting place.

Although our service this year looked very different to those in previous years, we were honoured that our community provide love, care and support to others watching alongside them, who have found themselves on the same journey.

‘Not all heroes wear capes’, is a phrase you may have recently heard mentioned in conversation or seen circulating on social media. It’s a phrase used to describe an everyday person performing an act of kindness or an otherwise selfless deed. While superheroes stay in the realm of fictional stories, it is our own personal heroes, our dads who we remember as our true everyday heroes each and every day.
